Submission
Most crawler search engines will eventually
index your website pages, but sometimes they can miss. It is recommended
to submit the top two pages that best summarise your website, as
soon as possible. This is always your home page (also known as the
index page of your domain) and often your site map page, to allow
a deep crawl of pages on your website.
There are a multitude of
submission services available. We discussed earlier that around
95% of searches are conducted using the top seven search engines,
so don’t be fooled into thinking a submission to over 500
search engines for example, will provide any value. It seems the
main objective of a lot of small search engines is to actually collect
email addresses and other data for spam advertising purposes.
In days gone by, rankings
could also be improved by frequently re-submitting to the search
engines; this is no longer the case. There are now penalties for
over-submitting and effectively spamming the search engines, so
it’s best not to risk it.
